What is a caucus?
A caucus is a political meeting of citizens within a designated neighborhood, or precinct. The neighborhood caucuses are where precinct officers and state and county delegates are elected by those in attendance. Those delegates will attend the county and state conventions and vote on the Republican candidates running for state wide and federal offices.
The House of Representatives seat in District 20 covers areas in both Davis and Salt Lake Counties and as such is voted on at the state convention by the state delegates we elect at the caucuses. A candidate who receives 60% of the delegate vote at convention is the automatic party nominee and goes straight to the general election in November with no primary election in June. If there are several candidates and none receives 60% of the delegate vote then the top two vote recipients will go to a primary election to be held on June 24, then the victor will move to the general election in November.

- You must be registered as a republican. There will be registration forms that can be completed at the caucus to either register to vote or identify republican party affiliation at the caucus.
How does it work?
- Candidates get friends and family to attend the caucus meetings. Those friends are elected as delegates committed to the candidate.

- Decide if you want to be a state delegate.
- Take people with you to the meeting who are committed to vote for you.
- Have someone ready to nominate you or you can nominate yourself.
- Be ready to answer questions, "Why are you running?" etc.
- You may be asked to speak to your own personal views and even answer questions as to how you feel about specific issues or candidates.
- If the number of people nominated is equal to the number of delegate positions available to your precinct, the election process will be quick and easy. If, however, there are more people interested in running than there are positions available there will be a voting process held.
